It looks better in real life than in the photo and the lid is brushed aluminium which looks really cool. However when the battery is attached it gets significantly bigger as it is a seperate unit coming out of the back of the player. I don't find this too bad however as battery life is excellent. Picture quality is great, and sound as good as can be expected with portable speakers. There are 2 headphone jacks so you can watch dvds with a friend, a useful feature. I had no problem with getting the bag as an earlier review suggests - in the box and included in the price was a travel bag and also a case to put over a car headrest so it can be watched from the back seat. Empire Direct offered brilliant service and it was delivered 2 days after i ordered it (however as i ordered it at about 8 o'clock at night when business hours were over that is more than acceptable). I would recommend this player to anyone. Rating: - Very Impressed My girlfriend bought me one of these as a present and I'm really impressed, she made a great choice. The unit feels solid unlike some of the cheaper models which have loose hinges and feel like they'll break after a few months. The outer lid is brushed aluminium rather than nasty plastic which feels good and I guess will be pretty durable. The picture quality is really good, and having an 8 inch screen instead of a 7 inch like a lot of other players makes a big difference. Onscreen menus are easy to navigate and changing settings is easy even if you don't bother to read the manual. The multi-region hack in one of the other reviews works fine, and unlike another review this DOES come with a storage case. The case is large enough for the unit and a couple of DVD's, the battery and maybe the charger depending how much stuff you want to cram in. It also has a headrest hanging bag which allows you to hang the player off of a car headrest for viewing in the rear seats. These are made from tough material which feels like it'll give reasonable protection but obviously being a soft case you could still crush the contents if you were silly enough to put something really heavy on it. There are two headphone jacks which is great for watching movies with a friend if you can't use the built in speakers. Audio and video outputs mean that you can plug the unit into your TV if you wanted and all the cables you need to do this are supplied. Divx playback is another great feature which is usually only found on more expensive models, Divx 3,4+5 are supported. Overall I would highly recomend this player to anyone looking for a portable. I haven't found any down sides to this player yet but I never give 5 stars because there's always room for improvement. I therefore set about buying an improved replacement. I thought this product might be longer lasting but I needed it for the kids in the car. So on the last item of this page it says "1 travel bag (optional)". After, several phone calls that "optional" means... it is NOT included and has to be bought sepeartely. However, Amazon said they didn't sell one and I should contact Philips direct who passed me on to another company . "Sorry", said a very helpful women, "that bag isn't made yet and will cost £79". She did emphasis that "it can't be that expensive" and that one might be available by October 2005... She also said she would run a check on the price as their database could be wrong. I gave up at this point and settled for the Philips PET 710 and the recommend bag, which could possible fit the 810.
